The ONE RS 1-inch 360 edition from Insta360 is a 360 camera designed to capture everything around it for immersive photos or videos you can explore in headsets or scroll-around on normal screens. You can also export a portion of the view to make a more traditional video, reframing it as desired, making it ideal for situations where you want to capture multiple views at once, or not worry where the camera’s actually facing. What makes this model different from most 360 cameras though is the larger sensor size.

Announced in June 2022, with an option to upgrade from the ONE RS model, the 1-inch 360 edition employs 1in sensors sporting around four times the area of the smaller 1/2.3in sensors typically found in consumer models, including Insta360’s own ONE X2 and ONE RS 360 mod; this in turn should result in better low-light quality as well as increased dynamic range. Bigger sensors however mean bigger lenses, a bigger body and a bigger price too, so the 1-inch 360 edition is aimed at a higher-end prosumer audience than the ONE X2, rather than replacing it.

The ONE RS 1-inch 360 Edition from Insta360 captures everything around it for immersive photos or videos you can explore in headsets or scroll-around on normal screens, but what makes it stand out compared to most consumer 360 cameras are larger 1in sensors. With around four times the surface area per sensor than typical consumer models, the 1-inch Edition promises better performance in low-light which certainly proved to be the case in our tests, but perhaps more striking in good light was the higher degree of real-life detail even when set to the same output resolution. Of course bigger sensors mean bigger lenses, a larger, heavier body and a higher price tag too, with the 1-inch Edition working out roughly double the cost of the ONE X2, plus it won’t be squeezing into many pockets either. In addition, you’ll need to drop the video resolution to 3k to unlock higher than 30p frame rates, and even then only 50p (not 60p) is available. But there’s no arguing with the image quality which makes the ONE RS 1-inch 360 Edition an ideal choice for anyone looking for a step-up in 360 photo and video quality over consumer models.
